Amelie
the flower cart.
With a small floral design business needing a home in Portland, Oregon, I had an idea: food carts do really well here; why not a flower cart?
So I found an old camper on Facebook marketplace. It was well loved but a little shabby. It was perfect.
the build
my partner and I stripped out the interior, keeping parts of the original to renovate and use later (fun fact, the ‘furniture’ in a camper like this forms some of its structural integrity; take it out and you might have it collapsing around you if you try to move it).
then we insulated it as well as we could manage in the little space, built a walk in refrigerator (for the flowers) at one end, replaced the drip rail on the exterior, took out the windows, cleaned and reinstalled them and then painted and finished it to be the cute little flower shop of my dreams.
Amelie was a perfect little flower studio from which to run my floral design business initially. My favorite guests were the kids, who very often would ask, wide-eyed “do you live here?”
I mean, no, kid but that’s a good idea..
